Asko|Schönberg, Slagwerk Den Haag & Jameszoo present ‘Blind’

for ensemble and nonexistent soloist

What Jameszoo wanted was to disappear from his own music. He failed at this completely, as he concedes. But what a glorious failure! The multi-faceted producer from Den Bosch collaborated on the development of an algorithmic musical brain that plays a piano and responds to the musical virtuosi of Asko|Schönberg and Slagwerk Den Haag. And Jameszoo himself, an astonished deity in his own sound universe, pushes them when he can with his electronics. A unique and unforgettable sample of electro-acoustic wrestling.

Jameszoo, alias Mitchel van Dinther, has an international reputation as a DJ and producer of experimental electronic jazz. He calls this ‘naive computer jazz’. On his latest album Blind (2022), Jameszoo concentrates on instruments that play by themselves, using self-learning algorithms. The results of this as we hear them are never the same twice. And the sonorities are now even more exotic than they used to be. Jameszoo’s disklavier (a robot piano) follows the tradition of the pianola etudes by Conlon Nancarrow: music that would often be physically impossible for human players. But what a trip!
