Nachtwacht is a typical NITE production: energetic, musical, and hyper-topical. A pitch-black, hilariously funny, and deeply sad piece that addresses themes such as family, emancipation, and authority through old age and dying. A family tragedy in which everyone tries to break free from the role assigned to them, so that they can define a role they truly believe in. Dark yet meditative. Oppressive yet ultimately liberating. In which a weakening heartbeat slowly transitions into an upward beat. A ritual journey to the end of the night, on the way to the first light of the new day.
