20th century gems
Using live music, fascinating guest speakers, and video and audio excerpts, Asko|Schoenberg is taking audiences on a journey along the gems of twentieth-century music. This time, we will explore the world of Claude Vivier (b. 1948, d. 1983). Many composers have praised the Canadian as one of the greatest composers of the last century. Vivier’s turbulent life ended in Paris, where he was beaten to death at a young age – most likely a crime of passion. Despite his short life, he left behind a very remarkable œuvre. This Treasure Trove is a preview of the Vivier concerts on 29 February (Saturday Matinee series at the Concertgebouw), 5 March (Muziekgebouw), 8 March (TivoliVredenburg) and 1 May (Musis, Arnhem). The presenter is Hans Goedkoop, known from the Dutch television programme Andere Tijden.
Each Treasure Trove production focuses on a different composer, examining the significance of his or her music at the time and why it continues to be relevant today. They feature a compact programme in an informal setting.
Due to the measures taken in regard to the corona virus the performance of Schatkamer Vivier (Treasure Trove) has been cancelled. We advise you to visit the website of Concertgebouw de Vereeniging in Nijmegen for the most recent information.
