Asko|Schönberg celebrates its well-established link with the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. You will hear music by the abstract thinker Peter Adriaansz and powerhouse Martijn Padding, alongside works by talented young composers from their classes.
The Slovenian composer Petra Strahovnik seeks out sounds and shapes that defy conventional musical notation, bridging the gulf between body and soul while shaking our powers of reasoning. Alexandre Kordzaia, who is a force in electronic dance and rap, urges on the cello soloist with battle cries, beats and vocalises. Lise Morrison mixes South African poetry by a native of Cape Town now in The Hague with video and sound. Star composer Michel van der Aa translates shades of red – from carmine to vermillion – into live music and soundtrack. Padding mocks the German fanfare brigade and gets the tuba to dance the tango.
NB November Music has an abbreviated program. The works of Martijn Padding and Lise Morrison will not be performed.
The works by Kordzaia, Adriaansz and Morrison are commissioned by Asko|Schönberg with the support of Performing Arts Fund NL.
There is a lot of sensory stimulation in this programme, which features video, media, theatre, movement, soundtracks and of course live music.
