Who are we?
Het Muziek is the leading ensemble for new music. We don’t define what music is; we explore it. With high-profile music projects, unexpected partners, crossovers between disciplines, and an open mind, we shape the music of today. Het Muziek is an ensemble that, together with innovative and energetic partners, builds on the continuous development of new composed music in various forms and disciplines. Both the top collection of great 20th-century composers and the very latest 21st-century works are performed. Het Muziek performs everywhere, from concert halls and outdoor festivals to theaters; and from its home base in Amsterdam to far beyond. Always with the aim of inspiring a wide audience and enabling them to discover new sounds.

Position
The board of Het Muziek, together with the management, moves between the present and the future, guiding the organization with attention, imagination, and critical questions. We are seeking a secretary for the board, who, as a board member, will contribute to the further development and professionalization of the organization based on their own expertise.

The secretary:

• prepares meetings (together with the chair and management)
• takes minutes of meetings
• has experience in personnel and organization
• has an affinity with the field of Het Muziek
• contributes to sound governance and decision-making.

Profile
We are looking for someone with:

• experience and/or expertise in personnel and organization;
• affinity with the field of Het Muziek and the (interdisciplinary) performing arts;
• interest in cultural policy and governance;
• critical and independent thinking;
• social engagement and an eye for diverse perspectives.

Practical Information

• The board of Het Muziek consists of five members. Together with the management, the board, along the lines of Cultural Governance, oversees the artistic, financial, and operational direction of the organization. The board is formally responsible for the foundation.
• The board meets approximately 4–6 times a year. In addition, board members occasionally serve as a sounding board or sparring partner, for example, during strategy sessions or grant applications.
• Board members are appointed for a three-year term, with the possibility of reappointment. The position of board member is unpaid.
