Unorthodox spirits
In biochemistry, “free radicals” pose a hazard to cells and tissues. In music, however, they can offer you the chance to explore a different sound world. Asko|Schönberg presents five of these unorthodox spirits, who have succeeded in detaching themselves from conventions and expectations. They play with our perceptions of time, challenge us to embrace microtonal intervals and integrate non-musical sounds within their dramaturgy.
As well as some of today’s idiosyncratic creators, such as Chaya Czernowin, Saad Haddad and the Dutchman Jan van de Putte (with a vocal homage to Pessoa), we hear works by the twentieth century mavericks Ives and Xenakis. Excitement assured!
