An unusual combination: new, experimental works by Beat Furrer and a symphony by Gustav Mahler in one and the same programme.

But not a ‘normal’ Mahler, because his Fourth is seldom heard in the ensemble version by Schönberg pupil Erwin Stein. Mahler’s ‘Himmlische Freuden’, reduced to its musical essence, promises a unique listening experience. In Gaspra, Furrer took his inspiration from an asteroid. As if it concerns a study of the atoms and molecules of an unknown celestial body, the piece develops into a fascinating, exciting exploration of the characteristic sounds of the individual instruments. In Aria, Furrer’s prima donna struggles with the belcanto.
