Platteland als Podium / Machine Agricole

Machine Agricole is a significant performance in the Platteland als Podium (The countryside as a stage) project. Theatre maker Paul Koek, artistic director of the musical theatre company De Veenfabriek, took the initiative to stage a musical theatre production focusing on the countryside and farm life and the relationship with the city. Musicians and actors, joined by Asko|Schönberg, set to work on a number of texts and compositions under the direction of Paul Koek. The production is based on thirty interviews with farmers and the composition Machines agricoles by Darius Milhaud. This is rounded out with new and existing theatre texts and six new compositions by Martijn Padding. The result is a musical theatre performance inspired on the countryside. An additional and essential part of the performance is a dinner provided by Andre Amaro, a Dutch-Portuguese chef who is a real trendsetter in taste. He noses out local products, ingredients and recipes typical to a region.
