November Music: with Corrie van Binsbergen on poetry by Antjie Krog
Van Binsbergen has been working alongside writers and poets since 2003. Literature and poetry are two major sources of inspiration for her.
Een Huid van Klank [A Skin of Sound] is an evening-long project that investigates the significance of music in relation to language. A hybrid ensemble including musicians from Asko|Schönberg, an improvising pop singer and a South African jazz trio explore every nook and cranny of language and sound, manifested in spoken word, songs and arias; a colourful project displaying a cross-fertilisation of the riches of different worlds.
‘When the meaning of a word yields, slips
and then surrenders into tone – from then on
the blood yearns for that infinite pitch of a word
because: the only truth stands skinned in sound.’
Antjie Krog

Composer and guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen was pinned to her seat when she heard the South African poet Antjie Krog reciting a poem on the radio a few years ago. She was overwhelmed by the sound, that diction, that South African accent.
