Summer course for new music
Over the course of seven days, ten selected participants will immerse themselves in a program inspired by the legacy of Dutch composer Louis Andriessen. His music, philosophy, political engagement, and interdisciplinary working methods have influenced generations of makers around the world.
During the Academy, the participants develop a short site-specific performance with Ruimtetijd at Fort Penningsveer, in the surroundings of a late nineteenth-century fort that forms part of the Amsterdam Defence Line. Throughout the process, they will be guided by coaches and guest tutors through a program of workshops, lectures, and collective sessions focused on performance, interdisciplinary practice, DIY methodologies, collectivity, and community building.
Who is it for? The Andriessen Academy is open to makers and performers who:
- are between 18 and 35 years old;
- come from all nationalities and backgrounds;
- have a hybrid practice as maker/performer;
- are able to perform their own work;
- are interested in new music, performance, and interdisciplinary practice.
Formal musical education is not required. We strongly encourage artists from other disciplines with a strong interest in music and performance to apply as well.
The first edition of the Andriessen Academy will take place from June 15th to 21st, 2026. On Saturday, June 20th, the selected makers will present their work at Fort Ruimte Tijdfrom 20:00 onwards. We can accommodate a maximum of 60 visitors. Once all places have been filled, registration will no longer be possible.
The 2026 edition is made possible in part through the support of Stichting Muziekfonds Mauricio Kagel.
