Traditional Persian motifs and Norwegian soundscapes at the Gaudeamus Festival
Soheil Shayesteh is not just a musician – he is an audiovisual composer. With his kamancheh (a Persian string instrument) and live electronics, he builds hypnotic soundscapes that pull you completely out of reality. Think: deep drones, glitchy layers, and visuals that react to every note. This is not a concert; this is a trip.
For the Gaudeamus Festival, Shayesteh drops a brand-new piece together with Norwegian trumpet legend Nils Petter Molvær and musicians from Het Muziek. Expect a live clash between warm, traditional Persian sounds vs. icy Scandinavian sounds. The kamancheh and the trumpet engage in a live dialogue using specially developed audio software, with a major role for improvisation alongside the composed elements. So what you hear is truly happening in the moment. In short, this is an experience you simply must hear at live.
