Writer and editor Rasit Elibol, singer El Karima, and musicians from Het Muziek present an evening exploring opportunities and the profound influence one’s place of birth has on the rest of one’s life. Elibol writes compelling stories on societal issues such as migration, labor, and social inequality for De Groene Amsterdammer. 

Does it matter where you are born—which city you grow up in, which neighborhood, which street, and which house on that street? According to Elibol, it certainly does. Now an acclaimed writer, he acknowledges the lasting scars left by a childhood spent in poverty. In his award-winning book, he refers to the struggle people with a migration background face to secure a place in Dutch society: “As if we have to climb Mount Everest every single day.” Elibol’s words are underscored by the music of Het Muziek.
